Bad Manners and Negativity

Journal Entry: Tue Nov 24, 2009, 5:42 AM
Just recently I have noticed a lot more bad manners and negativity, this is in my day to day life as well as on the internet including dA (thankfully hardly any here directed at me).

What has happened to a simple "Please and Thank You"?
How hard is it to give someone a smile?

For instance at the supermarket, hearing a customer bitch at a lovely polite young woman at the till/checkout because there was a delay with her transaction by card, at the next till the young woman behind it unable to raise a smile or say "Please or Thank you", answering a customers question with "Don't know don't care".

I just had a brusque message on-line demanding something when a request would have been much nicer and would have got a positive response rather than the "delete message" it got.

Some people seem incapable of being polite or taking a positive attitude to help others where they can, it is easier for them to be rude and unhelpful or criticise, well I think they need to learn the saying "If you choose to criticise you choose your enemies", think about it.

A smile can result in getting one back, to me that is far nicer than having someone scowl at me.

I am not trying to blow sunshine here, but I do think there would be less bitchiness and trouble all around if everyone made an effort to be a bit nicer, unfortunately we all know there are plenty of arse-holes in the world and a lot of those won't change.

It is so easy on-line to hide behind that computer screen and act brash or tough, very sad way to go about things.

Negativity, what's the point? if you can't be positive why bother opening your mouth or type something negative that might just cause offence or hurt someone, how would it feel if you were the victim of it, no-one is impervious to feelings, anyone who says they are is a liar and fooling only themselves.

Maybe I am getting old, I don't think it is that, more that I was brought up to be polite, lived in different countries among different peoples, I have had to be easy going and quick to make friends in new places, I learnt from a young age that being polite, positive and friendly let me get accepted 95% of the time.

So, I just hope maybe that just a few more people can smile and make someone else feel that little bit better, or perhaps think about how to put something across a little more friendly.

Thanks for reading if you got this far :)
